about
Earth Day is a biophilic soundscape derived from orchid biodata in the UK along with field recordings from various locations around Swarthmore, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico.
The piece is an international collaboration of collective listening where individuals where asked to contribute recordings of sounds and spaces. The composition is light and subtle, inviting the listener to experience small sound worlds, fragile melodies and distant landscapes with the intention of heightening ones awareness to the musical sound worlds in and around us.
The recording was made as part of a week-long online residency in April 2023 with Swarthmore College exploring nature, ecology, sound walks, music technology, poetry, beatboxing and listening.
The track artwork is an image of Decoy Country Park, Newton Abbot, South Devon taken during the week of the residency. This location informed a large part of the UK/US residency as inspiration to listen to landscapes through all the senses as living musical compositions.
